Doing our bit for good causes

It’s not just about doing the right thing within the company. For me, it’s also vital that we’re doing all we can to help the friends and family of our team, the local community, and the charities that are close to our hearts.

So in the coming year, we’ll be donating some of our profits to good causes, as well as holding monthly fundraisers. What’s more, we’re going to roll our sleeves up and get stuck in with a bit of volunteer work. Suggest a charitable cause!

I'm thinking of making a donation to charity this year...
Magic Breakfast

Magic Breakfast

Magic Breakfast is a fantastic charity that provides free breakfast at school to kids who wouldn’t normally get a chance to eat otherwise. Lots of studies have been done that show that missing breakfast can contribute to a downward spiral of less attention in class, lower achievement, truancy etc. We’re proud to play a small part in doing something to stop this.

The money we provide allows the charity to fund two schools for a year. It’s a small token, but every little really does help. Have a look at their website for more information!

Chef Specials

Chef Specials

Here at Bigham’s, we’re pretty spoilt with delicious food already. Over the last few months, when we’ve found ourselves with a few too many ingredients in the kitchens, our chefs have created delicious lunches for us with them, raising money for great causes at the same time! We’ve enjoyed haddock chowder, sirloin steak (no, really), haggis for Burns Night, gnocchi, pancakes for Shrove Tuesday, meatballs, tagine and kedgeree, all for charity, raising just under £400 since Christmas – not bad!

The great pie appeal

The great pie appeal

Help raise £££s for charity with your old pie ramekins!

If you’ve got a cupboard full of pie ramekins, don’t throw them away or let them clutter up your kitchen. Instead, take them to your local charity shop. They’ll sell them for £1 to £2 each. So, by enjoying our delicious pies and donating your ramekins, you’ll be doing your bit for good causes.
Or why not re-use them? They make great individual pudding dishes – pannacotta, crumble, jellies, chocolate pots, mousses… Send us in pictures of your creations! Points for originality…

The Upper Room

The Upper Room

Here at Charlie Bigham’s, we don’t want anything to go to waste. That’s why we’ve partnered up with a great charity based just round the corner from us – The Upper Room.

Every week, we donate around half a tonne’s worth of food which goes to straight to those who need it most. The Upper Room feeds over 100 people a week and we help by providing sauces and mixes prepared by our chefs. It’s a fantastic cause and we don’t want the sharing to end there. So, over the coming months, we hope to set up a chef training school where our chefs can help teach their chefs. Who knows – we might discover the next Charlie Bigham!

February Fundraiser: Valentine’s Hugs & Cookies

February Fundraiser: Valentine’s Hugs & Cookies

Here at Charlie Bigham’s, we’re all about the love.

That’s why we make meals for two! So with Valentine’s Day approaching, we decided to go all out and have a Hugs & Cookies sale. With the winds blowing a gale outside, our beautiful ladies in Technical and Food Development offered up their arms to anyone looking for a cuddle. The team also rolled up their sleeves and decorated some heart-shaped cookies and dug into a beautiful lunch from Chef Dan. All in the aid of charity.

November fundraiser: Halloween

November fundraiser: Halloween

The winter months can be cold and dark. Perfect for an American-themed Halloween party!

As the clock struck 8.30am, in walked witches, police officers and even Sweeney Todd in the kitchen! Of course, no Charlie Bigham’s fundraiser would be complete without some delicious food. So, we threw in a gruesome bake sale for good measure.

July fundraiser: Summer Picnic

July fundraiser: Summer Picnic

The first week in July and out comes the sun. Picnic anyone?

Buoyed by the success of his Salt & Pepper lunch, Chef Dan took to the stove once again to cook up a gorgeous summer picnic, with proceeds going to charity. Taking inspiration from all over Europe, Chef Dan conjured up everything from gazpacho to rosemary focaccia with roasted cherry tomatoes and that old favourite, the Scotch egg. With Murray playing in the afternoon, we naturally finished with strawberries and cream. Who wouldn’t?

April fundraiser: Great British Bake Off

April fundraiser: Great British Bake Off

With the first glimpse of sun on the horizon, we thought it was only right to have an old-fashioned Great British Bake Off.

With a prize for the best tasting and fastest selling cake on offer, the entries poured in. Head of NFD & Innovation George became our very own Mary Berry, taking it upon herself to smell and sample every cake, a number of times, just to make sure she got the full experience (it’s a hard job, but someone had to do it). After much deliberation and tasting, Production Manager Michael took both prizes with his delicious cardamom and pistachio cake.

March fundraiser: Salt & Pepper Lunch

March fundraiser: Salt & Pepper Lunch

To celebrate Easter, we decided it was about time the boardroom (otherwise known as Salt & Pepper) was transformed into a fancy restaurant.

Cue napkins folded into the shape of roses, French flags, music and the odd chocolate egg or two. We watched in awe as Chef Dan cooked up a storm in the kitchen – all in the aid of charity.
